Education is not only the backbone of civilized society it’s also the foundation of human development and progress. The conservative war on education didn’t start with Trump dismantling the Department of Education. The conservative movement has always been anti education, anti intellectual, anti science, and continues to demonize colleges and universities as instruments of radicalization and indoctrination.

In 1981, the Reagan administration cut the education budget by 25%. They slashed funding for the disadvantaged, the disabled and the handicapped. They replaced student grants with student loans so they could further enrich the bankers and the capitalists while smothering young Americans who dared to follow their dreams and get a degree with high interest debt that they could never pay off. Funding is unequal favoring wealthy districts over low income areas and schools need assistance from parents purchasing basic necessities. What would I do?

For starters, developing a national daycare program would save families $1000 or more per month on childcare while providing an intellectually stimulating environment where they can adapt to sitting quietly in a classroom environment and listening to a speaker. It would also provide a socially stimulating environment as our children would learn to play, work, learn, and solve problems together creating the foundation for early childhood education. Providing a healthy breakfast and lunch for our children should also be non-controversial. Finally opening up the doors to higher education for young people so they can follow their passions, pursue their happiness and become the doctors, surgeons, nurses, architects, engineers, scientists, and astronauts of the future. We should be encouraging and uplifting the next generation to build the future of our species. If you want to take money out of politics. Let’s take it out of healthcare as well. Let’s take ownership of and nationalize our healthcare system.
