Our democracy is under attack. Conservatives continue to purge millions of voters across the country and ideologically don’t believe in the rights of the people to vote. We should revise the For The People Act which currently expands voting rights allowing for same day registration and early voting, it ends gerrymandering allowing for fairer districts and a better representation of the people, it includes campaign finance restrictions to reduce the influence of money in our political system as well as ethics and transparency provisions.
Simply put, every American has a fundamental right to vote and billionaires shouldn’t be able to bankroll candidates and install puppets in places of leadership and influence. Campaigns should also be held accountable for lying to and deceiving the American people. We shouldn’t have a 10 minute wait in some polling places while others are waiting for hours.
We need to ensure people have the time off of work to vote. We need to eliminate the electoral college which is outdated and undemocratic. Ending Citizens United and restoring the people’s power is a necessity to keep a free and fair democracy. A reshaped For The People should be at top of the agenda for the new Congress in 2027.
